On Being a Supervisor

Every semester, I get the wild privilege of walking alongside bachelor’s and master’s level social work students — humans right on the edge of becoming. And honestly? It’s amazing. And a little terrifying.

They trust me with some of the most influential moments of their early careers. They let me into their questions, their uncertainties, their growth edges, their first big “I can do this” moments. That trust is sacred.

My own bachelor-level internship shaped everything about who I became as a social worker. It handed me the map that led me straight into Adventure Therapy, into experiential work, into the life I now get to live with my clients. And now I get to offer that same kind of pivotal experience to someone else.

It feels like a full-circle blessing I never take lightly.

Being a clinical supervisor to a college social work student is something many social workers will never get the chance to do. It’s a responsibility, a relationship, a mirror, and a legacy — all wrapped into one.

I’m grateful every single time a student chooses to learn with me. And I’m committed to doing my own work, centering my own growth, and showing up the best I can… so they can show up for the world in the ways they’re meant to.

To every student I’ve supervised so far — thank you.

You make me a better clinician, a better human, and a fiercer believer in the future of this field.

It's and honor and a privilege.
